It is a 6 week online course which consists of instructions and videos with a focus on Celtic music to help students learn to play by ear.
Prior experience with the violin is not required for our Absolute Beginners course.
However, prior experience is required for our Beginner and Intermediate courses.
A fiddle or violin which has been properly set up, has strings, a tailpiece, is in tune is required for the courses.
Our Absolute Beginners course goes through what to look for when choosing a fiddle or violin, how to tune the instrument and what is needed for the courses.
*Fiddle = Another name for a violin
For all courses, ensure you have good internet access and also your own violin, violin bow, shoulder rest & rosin.
Absolute Beginners: You can start from scratch.
Beginners: To get the most from the course, try the course after 6 months or onwards of playing the fiddle.
Intermediate: Try the course after 2 to 3 years of playing the fiddle.

Each course is 6 weeks long and can be completed in your own time.
The courses are pre-recorded with videos splitting each course learning into mamageable chunks.
Live sessions depend on numbers enrolled for courses and are arranged for various times during the year.
Yes, students are welcome to send in pre-recorded audio or videos for comment and feedback.
In the Absolute Beginners course, the student will learn to play their first notes and tune on the fiddle.
The Beginners course builds on this and helps the students to play their first Celtic fiddle tunes by ear.
The Intermediate course incorporates the Beginners course learnings to help the student to play Celtic fiddle tunes by ear and with their own voice.
