📍 Venue The Painting Class, Bellevue, Richmond VA
📅 Date Saturday, 27 June 2026
🕒 Time 2:00pm – 4:30pm
🎟 Spaces Limited to 20 participants

What if improving your fiddle playing wasn't about pushing harder… but about slowing down in the right way?

"When you slow things right down, you start to hear things you've never noticed before. And that's when your playing transforms."

Join Scottish fiddle player and educator Colin MacLeod for a unique immersive workshop at The Painting Class — a warm, creative art studio in the heart of Bellevue, Richmond — designed to help you play with greater ease, authenticity, and confidence.

We work entirely by ear — no sheet music, no dots on a page — using the same oral tradition that has carried Scottish music across generations.

During this 2.5-hour workshop, you will:

  • 🎵 Learn a traditional Scottish tune completely by ear
  • 🥁 Explore rhythm, groove, and phrasing in depth
  • Develop authentic Celtic ornamentation and tone
  • Apply the "Slow Down to Speed Up" method in real time
  • 🌿 Discover practical approaches for playing with more ease and relaxation
  • 🤝 Build confidence through guided repetition and group learning

✨ The extended 2.5-hour format allows for deeper learning, more musical flow, and a relaxed, enjoyable experience.

🎵 Why This Approach Works

  • 👂 Traditional Scottish music was always passed down by ear
  • 🤝 Through community — not solo practice in isolation
  • 🥁 Through rhythm, feel, and shared experience

This workshop reconnects you to that tradition in a supportive, modern setting — so you leave not just with a tune, but with a new way of hearing music.

Scottish-born. Highland-raised.
Playing since childhood.

Colin MacLeod grew up near Inveraray in the Scottish Highlands, where music was something you absorbed — from ceilidhs, from kitchen sessions, from listening to the people around you. That upbringing shaped everything about how he teaches.

As the founder of Celtic Fiddle Guru and the School of Celtic Fiddle Mastery, Colin has taught play-by-ear Scottish fiddle across the US and internationally, helping players at every level discover what it truly means to make the music breathe.

His approach is warm, story-led, and deeply rooted in cultural tradition — focused on musical flow, relaxed technique, and the joy of playing together.
