with Colin MacLeod at Blackerby Violin Shop · Austin TX
Sound · Science · Scottish Fiddle
This is a live, hands-on hour with Colin MacLeod and his violin — no science background needed, and no homework beforehand. Here's how the time unfolds:
No previous music or science background needed — just curiosity. Suitable for ages 6 and up.
This workshop was designed to bring new people into the world of music and science — whether or not they play an instrument.
Spaces are limited. No science background needed — just curiosity.
Staying for the evening? The Scottish Fiddle Workshop follows at 6:15pm — Beginners and Intermediate-Advanced sessions, learn a tune by ear, and play live for dancers from the Austin Scottish Country Dance Society.
See the Fiddle Workshop →Originally from the Scottish Highlands near Inveraray in Argyll, Colin is a fiddle player, educator, and cultural storyteller who brings together traditional music, creative learning, and a deep interest in how sound supports connection and wellbeing.
His work spans Celtic festivals in Australia, the National Folk Festival, the Unwinding Trauma — Building Resiliency programme, and play-by-ear workshops from Virginia to Texas. The Cymatics Experience reflects his belief that music is vibration, movement, energy, and connection — not just notes on a page.
