A taste of the Celtic Sound Experience — live fiddle soundscapes at Soulshine Studios, Richmond, VA

The Experience

This is not a concert.
It's a journey.

Step into an hour-long Celtic Sound Experience that blends meditation, imagination and live fiddle. Guided by Colin MacLeod — founder of the School of Celtic Fiddle Mastery — this session uses the expressive voice of the fiddle to evoke the lochs, glens, mountains, coastal winds, and the pulse of ancient rhythm.

The room is softly lit. You're invited to lie back, close your eyes, and let the soundscapes carry you. There is no agenda beyond stillness.

"You may leave feeling calm, inspired, or simply rested — often all three."

Celtic Fiddle Sound Journey Play By Ear Scottish Tradition Slow Down to Speed Up

About the Artist

A lifetime of music as a living, connective force

Known as "The Celtic Fiddle Guru," Colin MacLeod is the founder of the School of Schlottish Fiddle Mastery — an online academy that blends Scottish fiddle and classical technique into an ear-led, heart-led approach. He grew up in Inveraray, Argyll, steeped in the oral tradition of ceilidhs and family music-making; his father speaks Gaelic, and the fiddle came first at age seven.

For the Celtic Sound Experience, Colin draws on that same root — not concert performance but communal presence, the fiddle as a vessel for landscape and memory rather than spectacle.

His teaching philosophy — "Slow Down to Speed Up" — underpins the Sound Experience too: deep listening before movement, stillness before response, ancient tunes as a doorway back to the essential.

🐘 Serenaded elephants in the Sumatran jungle — music recognised across species.
🏔️ Played his fiddle at 33,000 feet over the summit of Mt. Everest.
🏅 Co-creator of Unwinding Trauma — Building Resiliency programme, recipient of the CanBeWell Legacy Award 2024.
🎶 Host of the monthly Online Celtic Music Jam, running four+ years and growing a global community of ear-led players.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you'd like to know

No — and that distinction matters. While live music is absolutely central, the Celtic Sound Experience is designed as a meditative, participatory journey, not a performance to watch or applaud. Think of it more like a sound bath, but with the warmth and expressiveness of live Celtic fiddle rather than recorded tracks or singing bowls.
None at all. The Celtic Sound Experience is designed to be received, not understood. You don't need to know the tunes, recognise the modes, or have any relationship with Celtic music beforehand. Many attendees have no musical background whatsoever — the experience meets you exactly where you are.
Yes — and most people do. Soulshine Studios provides mats so you can lie comfortably for the full journey. If you prefer to sit — in a chair or cross-legged — that is equally welcome. There is no single right way to receive the music. Bring an eye mask or light blanket if you'd like additional comfort.
The environment encourages gentle stillness, but it is warm and welcoming rather than rigid. Soft breath sounds and gentle movement are completely normal — especially as deeper relaxation sets in. There is no applause during the experience itself, which helps preserve the meditative atmosphere for everyone in the room.
The experience is gentle and accessible for most adults. If you have specific health concerns — physical or otherwise — please contact Jen at Soulshine Studios beforehand so she can suggest any helpful adaptations. The studio is experienced in creating inclusive, supportive spaces.
Tickets are booked directly through Soulshine Studios. Head to soulshinestudios.com/events for current pricing and availability. Places are limited to preserve the intimate, meditative nature of the experience — booking ahead is strongly recommended.
